Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am considering having aesthetic surgery. What are the risks associated with these types of surgeries?

Surgical procedures, including aesthetic surgeries, carry inherent risks that both the doctor and patient should acknowledge. Common risks such as infection, suture dehiscence, and bleeding are present. Additionally, aesthetic surgeries may necessitate revisions or touch-ups, especially notable in procedures like rhinoplasty, where 2-5% of cases may require revision due to the intricate nature of the surgery.

  • When will the results of aesthetic surgeries become apparent? Is there swelling or bruising? When can I go out in public?

To fully evaluate the result of a cosmetic surgery, complete wound healing is necessary. In aesthetic procedures performed on visible areas of the body, such as breast lift or removal of a mole from the cheek, there will be some degree of redness and firmness along the suture line as a result of the wound healing process.

  • Does smoking affect the outcome of this surgery?

Smoking has a negative effect on tissues and wound healing due to the toxic substances it contains. In order for the stitches placed during surgery to heal, sufficient blood flow is required in that area. Smoking disrupts blood circulation and complicates wound healing. In aesthetic surgery, smoking directly affects the visibility of scars on the patient. In some cases, smoking can impair wound healing to such an extent that the stitches may not hold. Individuals planning to undergo aesthetic surgery should quit smoking at least for a period of time before the procedure.

  • I want to have cosmetic surgery, but even the thought of surgery scares me. How can I overcome my fear?

To overcome your fear, you should start by establishing good communication with your doctor. Remember that people fear what they don’t know. When you explain your concerns and the specific issues you want to address through surgery, your doctor will provide you with detailed information about the available options and what you can expect before and after the procedure. Some patients, including children with dental anxiety, find help in overcoming their fears through hypnosis.

  • I have health insurance and I'm considering having cosmetic surgery. Will my insurance cover my surgery?

No health insurance covers cosmetic surgeries. Health insurance comes into play in cases of illness and death; since cosmetic surgeries are not performed to treat any illness and are considered elective procedures, insurance companies do not cover the costs of these surgeries. However, some cosmetic surgeries may be performed out of necessity.

  • I want to undergo cosmetic surgery, and I am confident that my doctor will do their best to ensure a successful outcome. What can I do to achieve a perfect result?

First and foremost, you should follow your doctor’s recommendations. Your doctor will provide you with instructions on what to do before and after the surgery. After the surgery, your doctor will schedule dressing changes and follow-up appointments for you. Make sure not to delay these appointments and attend them on time. If any unexpected developments occur, such as leakage or bleeding at the surgical site, contact your doctor for advice. Another important aspect is smoking. Smoking hinders wound healing and can lead to poor scarring or even non-healing of the incisions.

  • I am taking some medications. Will they affect the outcome of the surgery? Should I discontinue these medications during the period when I will have the surgery?

Before undergoing surgery, it's crucial to disclose all medications and medical conditions to your doctor during the initial examination. This allows for necessary tests and ensures your safety. If any risky conditions arise, your doctor may postpone or cancel the surgery. Cosmetic surgeries are only performed if your health permits, prioritizing safety over results. Even if you're a suitable candidate for a procedure, surgery won't proceed if your health isn't optimal.

  • I would like to have surgery, but unfortunately, I have a serious medical condition. Does this illness prevent me from having aesthetic surgery?

Aesthetic procedures can be considered for individuals with serious medical conditions if deemed safe after consultation and necessary tests. However, major procedures aren't advisable in such cases. Safety remains paramount, and surgery won't proceed if health is compromised. As with previous responses, ensuring safe conditions precedes achieving aesthetic outcomes. If health doesn't permit, surgery won't be performed, regardless of candidacy.

  • I had a serious traffic accident before and I left diffused and deep scratches on my face. Can't these traces be removed?

Scar correction is a common aesthetic surgery, with various methods available like surgical corrections, laser treatments, and chemical peels. However, complete elimination of scars isn't always possible, especially for deep or prominent ones. The aim is to reduce their visibility. Remaining scars can be further minimized with makeup or additional treatments. Consultation with a doctor is essential for tailored advice on scar correction methods.

  • What is the cost of cosmetic surgeries? How is the cost calculated?

The cost of cosmetic surgery depends on factors like materials, surgery duration, anesthesia type, associated risks, and procedure complexity. Aesthetic surgery demands specialized training and artistic skill, as it involves shaping living tissue. Surgeons blend medical expertise with aesthetic sensibility, making it both a surgical specialty and an art form.

  • I am considering having a cosmetic surgery, but I hear that these types of surgeries are very expensive. How much do these surgeries cost?

In today's society, appearance holds significant importance. Achieving excellent surgical outcomes outweighs cost considerations, as procedures like rhinoplasty can dramatically enhance facial appearance. Cosmetic surgery is a specialized procedure with transformative effects, often deemed invaluable by satisfied patients. While once considered costly, the increasing prevalence of aesthetic surgery has made procedures more accessible across diverse demographics.

  • I am planning to have a cosmetic surgery, but I also do not want to appear "artificial." I would like to discuss my post-surgery appearance with my doctor. Is this possible?

Yes, of course, this is possible. Advances in computer technology allow patients to visualize potential surgical outcomes before procedures. Dr. Ibrahim OSKUI prioritizes achieving natural results aligned with patient preferences. Computer simulations enable adjustments based on patient descriptions, ensuring desired outcomes and minimizing surprises during surgery. This proactive approach eliminates the need for additional procedures post-surgery.

  • How do you determine the shape of the nose in rhinoplasty?

In aesthetic surgeries, including rhinoplasty, patient desires are paramount but must align with facial structure and proportions. For instance, requests for disproportionate changes may result in unnatural appearances. Patient preferences are carefully considered through discussions and computer simulations to ensure harmonious outcomes.

  • Is there a certain age for undergoing aesthetic surgery?

Aesthetic surgery candidates typically should be at least 18 years old and have completed physical and psychological development, though exceptions apply. For instance, ear surgery for prominent ears is best done after age 4 but before starting elementary school to avoid potential peer ridicule. Similarly, corrective procedures for cleft lip and palate should begin as early as possible, with nasal deformity correction around age 16-17. Early intervention is crucial for optimal outcomes in these cases.

  • Can you get pregnant after a tummy tuck surgery?

After a tummy tuck surgery, it's advisable to wait at least one year before getting pregnant to ensure full healing and avoid early loosening of tightened abdominal layers. Although pregnancy won't harm the baby's development, it may affect the aesthetic results. It's also essential to wait until the breastfeeding period has passed and hormonal changes return to pre-pregnancy levels before undergoing procedures like tummy tuck or breast reduction, typically recommended after 6-12 months postpartum.

  • Why is there no visible scar after nose surgeries? How are nose surgeries performed?

Nose surgeries are performed through the inner surface of the nasal wings. Since the remaining scar after the surgery is located inside the nose, there is no visible scar that can be seen from the outside. Only in open rhinoplasty, the incisions on both sides are connected across the section that separates the nostrils. A stitch is placed in the middle of this area, but after healing, there is no visible or prominent scar along this suture line. Therefore, it can be said that nose aesthetic surgeries are scarless procedures.

  • I am 7 months pregnant. Due to the weight I gain during my pregnancy, I think my belly will sag after the birth. Can I have a tummy tuck surgery in the same session after my birth cesarean, because I don't want to take anesthesia twice?

Combining a tummy tuck with a cesarean section is not recommended due to potential complications. After pregnancy, weight loss and hormonal changes may lead to abdominal sagging again, making it advisable to wait at least 6-12 months postpartum before considering tummy tuck surgery. Additionally, due to narcosis drugs passing into breast milk, breast reduction surgery should also be delayed until after breastfeeding for at least 6-12 months postpartum.

  • I'm considering its silicone breast prosthesis. After this surgery, will my wife and i be uncomfortable with the presence of silicone?

After breast augmentation surgery, there's an adjustment period, especially for implants placed under the muscle, causing discomfort when moving arms. However, over time, pain decreases, and patients typically forget about the implants. Silicone breast prostheses fully adapt to their position within 3 months, allowing patients to resume normal activities like sauna, sports, and lying on their stomach without affecting the implants.
